Course Syllabus
Here are the norms that our class has decided are important when creating a Math community. |
Be Present
( Arrive on-time and stay the whole class period. Keep eating and drinking discrete. Put away unnecessary electronics.)
Be Participating
(Use audio, video and chat to stay engaged in class. Volunteer to answer questions. Take a leadership role. )
Be a Team Player
(Share the work. Help out peers that ask for assistance. Let others participate in breakout rooms.)
Be Kind
( No bad language. Stay positive. Be the reason someone tries hard in class.)
Be Honest
(Turn in your own work. Follow directions on an assignment.)
Be Understanding
( We all make mistakes. Learn from each mistake and try again.)
Grading - Academic
Your academic math grade (A, B, C, D, or F) will be determined by your performance on in-class and out-of-class assignments. All assignments will be assigned a specific number of points as determined by the teacher. Assignments may include teacher-created tasks that are completed during or outside of class time, Khan Academy assignments, GoFormative practice problems, Desmos lesson activities and assessments. All assignments will be posted on Canvas when they are assigned. Due dates and possible points will be clearly marked.

Late Work
Late work will be accepted through the week before the end of each quarter (1/15/21).
However, students' citizenship grade will be lowered when turning in late work. See information below about citizenship grades.
If the student needs an extension to complete work beyond the expected due date, the student is responsible for emailing the teacher BEFORE the due date to request an extension. Family emergencies are exempt from this and will be dealt with on an individual basis.
- Privately message the teacher clearly stating which assignment they would like to complete. In the email the student needs to also state WHY the assignment was late.
- After the student has completed the assignment, the student must reply to the email letting the teacher know that the assignment is done and is ready to be graded.
- Failure to contact the teacher and make arrangements to complete late work may result in the assignment not being graded and entered into PowerSchool.
Re-Do Policy
Any class/asynchronous assignment may be re-done for a higher grade within the quarterly time frame (1/22/21). Any test or quiz may be re-done within one week of original testing date. Once the quarter grading period closes, all grades are final.
Students may re-do assignments as many times as they need to in order to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The highest grade earned will be used toward the PowerSchool grade. In order for students to “re-do” an assignment they must complete the following steps:
- Privately message the teacher clearly stating which assignment they would like to re-do. In the email the student needs to also state WHY he/she wants to re-do the assignment.
- After the student has re-done the assignment, the student must reply to the email letting the teacher know that the assignment is done and is ready to be graded.
Extra Credit Policy
No extra credit will be assigned. To earn an “A” on an assignment, students must demonstrate a thorough and complete understanding of the standard, as outlined in the grading rubric above.
PowerSchool Gradebook
In gradebook, all assignment descriptions will include a direct link to the assignment. When you click on the assignment name, it will load a page that has a link you can click or copy/paste to go directly to the assignment in Canvas. All grades can be checked any time on the PowerSchool website by students and parents. The website is: https://powerschool.sandi.net/public/. The student’s district username and password are needed to login. PowerSchool Grades will be updated at least once a week. Please be patient with viewing “re-do” assignment grades on PowerSchool. Teachers will make every effort to grade re-do assignments as quickly as possible. Refer to the expectations outlined above for how a student should “re-do” an assignment.
*Note- "mis" indicates an assignment is missing and has no grade attached to it at this time. This is usually used for when a student is absent or has missed an assignment and is planning on turning the assignment in to the teacher. "MIS" incates an assignment is missing has been given a grade of '0'. This is usually used an assignment is at least a week late and the student has not made arrangements to complete it.
Grading - Citizenship
The following behaviors will negatively impact a student’s citizenship grade (E, G, S, N, or U):
- Missing Zoom sessions without a valid reason
- Logging into Zoom sessions consistently for only a short period of time without a valid reason
- Refusing to engage/participate in Zoom sessions ( audio, video or chat)
- Turning in late assignments
To earn an “E” for citizenship, a student should attend all Zoom sessions, participate actively in these sessions, and complete all work on time, asking for help when needed.
Online Participation (Zoom)
Students are expected to participate in their classes daily (audio, video or chat). By fully participating and engaging in the day’s lesson, students will increase their chances of excelling in academic assignments and understanding the content. Not attending Zoom sessions or low participation during Zoom will result in a lower citizenship grade.
Our class meets 5 times a week on Zoom. All class periods will be 60 minutes. This time will consist of live instruction where students are expected to be on Zoom with the teacher. Students may be dismissed to work independently on their assignment, or they may be asked to stay or return to Zoom during this time to facilitate small group work. Small-group instruction is critical in our online model of teaching because it is another way to connect with students, check for understanding and address any ongoing concerns in a more comfortable setting. The teacher will be available for questions for the duration of the 60 minutes when not running a small group. Please remember that questions can always be messaged anytime, even outside of the class time.
Student Zoom Expectations
- Treat this like a classroom conversation. Be polite, respectful and appropriate.
- Be prepared with materials and on time.

- Use school appropriate language. Stay on topic.
- Follow the teacher or co-teacher’s instructions. Actively participate.
- Work collaboratively in break-out rooms. Everyone tries!
- Ask questions when you’re confused.
